Today's Psalms

Welcome

20th May

Opening Prayer

14 1) May the Lord open our minds, hearts and mouths to sing and speak his praise. Amen

There will be darkness, but it will be overcome by light. There will be sadness, but it will be overcome by joy. There will be sin, but righteousness will overcome it.

And God’s holy ones, in his Holy City, will revel in their eternity with him and with the angels they will sing

The Psalms

My God, my God, why have you deserted me?

My God, why have you turned your back on me? Why have you deserted me? Why are you so far from helping me? Why do you not hear my groaning?

My God, I cry to you in the daytime, but you do not hear me. In the night I call out.

But you are holy, your throne is surrounded by the praise of your holy people.

Our ancestors trusted in you, and you rescued them and kept them safe.

They cried out to you, and were saved; they trusted in you, and were not ashamed.

But I am a worm. I am not worthy to be a human; I am an insult, and despised by all people.

They all see me, and they laugh. They make faces and shake their heads.

"He trusted in the Lord," they say. "Let him rescue him and save him if he is happy with him."

But you are the one who has taken me from the womb; before I was weaned, you made me trust.

I was cast upon you from my birth; from my mother's womb you have been my God.

Do not be far from me. Trouble is near me. There is no one to help me.

Many wild animals have surrounded me. Might bulls from Basan are circling me.

They stare at me with their mouths open - like lions, raging and roaring.

Like water, I am poured out. My bones are all out of joint. My heart is like wax. It has melted within me.

My strength has withered away, like a dried pot. My tongue is dried and clings to my mouth. You have brought me to the dust of death.

For dogs are all around me. The wicked come together to enclose me: they have pierced my hands and my feet.

I can count every one of my bones: they look at me, and stare at me.

They tear my clothes and share them out among them: they draw lots for my clothing.

But, you, O Lord - do not be far from me. Be my strength. Come quickly to help me.

Save me from the sword; keep my precious life from the power of the dogs.

As your answer, save me from the lion's mouth; keep me from the horns of the wild oxen.

I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters; I will praise you among the crowds.

All you who respect the Lord, give him praise. You inheritors of Jacob, glorify him; you offspring of his Holy People, fear him.

For he has never despised or turned away from the afflictions of the poor ones. He has not hidden his face from them, but has also heard them when they cry out.

I will praise you among the great crowds; I will keep my vows before those who fear Him.

The poor will eat, and will be satisfied; those who seek the Lord will praise him. May your heart live for ever!

All the ends of the earth will remember the Lord and turn to him. All the families of the nations will worship before you.

For the kingdom is the Kingdom of the Lord, and he rules over the peoples.

All the rich of the earth will eat and worship. All mortals - those who cannot even keep themselves alive - will bow down before him.

All generations to come will serve him, and will pass on that service of the Lord to those to come.

They will come and declare his righteousness to a people who will come. They will tell them that he has done this. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

As it is, always has been and always will be, through the infinite ages. Alleluia. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever.

Amen

My God, my God, why have you deserted me?

Bible Reading 2 Peter 3:5

It is concealed from them - indeed, they want it this way - that the universe existed long ago, and the earth was made from the waters by the will of God

Canticle

Christ, through his death on the cross, sets us free. Alleluia

Bear yourself in the same way as Christ Jesus

He, although he was in the form of God, did not consider that equality with God was something to be aimed at.

Rather, he emptied himself and took the form of a servant, in human appearance.

And being found like a human in looks, he made himself ever more humble, and became subject to death - even the death of the cross.

And so God raised him up, and highly exalted him, and gave him the name which is above every other name.

So that at the name of Jesus, every knee in heaven and on earth should bow down,

And every tongue in every mouth should admit that he is Lord Jesus Christ, to the Glory of God the FatherGlory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

As it is, always has been and always will be, through the infinite ages. Alleluia. Amen.

Christ, through his death on the cross, sets us free. Alleluia

Closing Prayers

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever.

Amen

May the Lord keep us day and night in his care, safe in the hope of eternal joy. Alleluia. Amen
